Safety-conscious solicitors Coles Miller are giving away more than 1,000 high visibility Snap Straps to help keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on the roads.
The UK Legal 500 recommended Dorset law firm - which helps personal injury clients all over the country - is handing out the reflective Snap Straps as part of Road Safety Week (November 17-23).
Coles Miller Partner Adrian Cormack, who leads the firm’s Personal Injury team, said: “Sadly, we always see an increase in road accidents at this time of year because the shorter days and poor weather reduce visibility.
“Many of the accidents involve cyclists and they usually suffer broken bones. Some of the most serious accidents result in life-changing injuries for the victims.
“It is absolutely vital that cyclists wear as much high visibility and reflective clothing as they can to give them the best chance of being seen by other road users,” he added.
Mr Cormack was himself the victim of an accident while cycling to work in Poole. He suffered minor injuries after being hit by a car at Lilliput.
His cycle helmet saved him from more serious injuries so he always wears one - and high visibility reflective clothing - when out on his bike. He recommends that other cyclists do likewise.
Earlier this month Coles Miller was named as a finalist in the Dorset Business Awards for launching a Soccer Safety School for Dorset schoolchildren in conjunction with the LV=Streetwise centre and AFC Bournemouth. The project uses football training to help reinforce vital safety messages.
On November 27, solicitors from Coles Miller will be attending the Dorset Business Awards gala dinner at the BIC to discover whether the firm has won the Business Engagement with the Community category, which is sponsored by JP Morgan.
