What Is A Coles Miller Moment?

Because of the nature of our business, we sometimes hear stories where our clients are going through a particularly challenging or stressful time.

Coles Miller Moments allows us to support our clients by giving them a little something to brighten up their day and give them confidence when they need it most.

How It Works

When a staff member at Coles Miller feels that a client deserves a little extra, we try to think of a nice way to show we care and support them with a gift that will hopefully bring a smile to their face.

Client Stories

flowers

Barbara first came to Coles Miller when she instructed us to assist her with registering her husband’s EPA and some general affairs. Sadly her husband has now passed away, but we will continue to assist her by dealing with his estate.  We wanted to do something nice for Barbara and so we had a lovely basket of flowers arranged and a member of the Coles Miller team dropped off the flowers to her on a sunny day in February.

Why we chose Barbara

"I chose Mrs White because she has had a tough time recently with her husband being ill and subsequently passing away. Every time I met her though, she was friendly and welcoming and appreciative of what I was doing for her. I just thought that was worthy of a small gift." - Joseph Edwards, Solicitor

What Barbara said

"The flowers were absolutely beautiful and so thoughtful. They have lasted ever so well, well over a week! I have been taking pictures of them on my iPad".

Why we chose Mr Young

Mr Young happened to instruct conveyancing specialist, Michelle Vick during a difficult time. Despite a challenging few months, Mr Young would always be smiling, high-spirited and full of humour. Once the conveyancing process had been finalised, the team at Broadstone were so happy to see Mr Young was officially back on the property ladder.

Back on the property ladder and ready for some DIY!

To mark the end of a busy few months and completing on his house, Michelle was delighted to award her client with a Coles Miller Moment – a B&Q voucher which would help towards Mr Young’s renovation plans.

What Mr Young Said

“Michelle, you have been very understanding and helpful at this very difficult time for me. Everyone at Coles Miller were all really friendly and approachable. Thank you very much for this voucher which will come in very handy for doing work to my new house.”

We wish Mr Young every success in his new home. Well done to Michelle for demonstrating client care at its best.

Mr Phil Tinney suffered a serious Road Traffic Accident when he was hit by a reversing car whilst undergoing his leaflet drop duties for a local business. Fortunately his friend Peter Givens knew of Coles Miller Personal Injury Department and contacted them about the claim.

Peter along with Coles Miller were with Phil through every step of the claim and as Phil recovered from his fracture and bruising, Coles Miller were able to offer him rehabilitation and communicate on a regular basis so that his claim ran smoothly.

Due to the rehabilitation Phil was back to work relatively quickly and the Personal Injury claim settled with the Defendant on very favourable terms within 2.5 months.

Why we chose Phil and Peter

Throughout the process we learned that Phil & Peter really enjoy going to the Toby Carvery together. Therefore, we thought it would be great to give them both a £20 voucher so that they can relax and enjoy themselves after a stressful time.

What Phil and Peter said

"The experience in dealing with Coles Miller was so unusual in that we were met with a can do attitude. The circumstances were difficult but the route to the final outcome was made easy by the professional way we were led to the final outcome. Thank you so much for your help."

It was quite clear from the outset that Phil & Peter had a very special friendship and it was a joy taking instructions from them throughout the process. It is so fitting that they chose to share a Toby Cavery meal together and we wish them bon appetit!

Why we chose Wizarding Delights

Our client was setting up a new Harry Potter merchandise business near our Poole offices in the Dolphin Shopping Centre. Despite the Christmas rush well underway and, uncertainty with Brexit, our client reflected complete enthusiasm and determination to get her business up and running. Chartered Legal Executive, Amy Wilson and her team assisted Carole with the lease of Unit F, Link Mall with a very prompt turnaround.

Already a success!

With the business officially opening just over a week ago, Wizarding Delights has been busy unpacking new stock and greeting plenty of customers – we couldn’t be more ‘delighted’ for Carole.

What Carole - Owner of Wizarding Delights said

“Now things have calmed down, I just wanted to send you an email to say a big thank you for your work on the lease. I know it was not an easy one to do, but I thank you for keeping me up to date on the progress and getting it completed in time for opening. Also thank you for the lovely card and bottle of prosecco, it was definitely enjoyed Saturday night!”

Mr and Mrs Smith were named as executors on their good friend Alan's will and dealt with solicitor Clare Bland in our Poole office. They were presented with a £40 voucher to enjoy a meal together at Lochfyne restaurant.

Why we chose Mr and Mrs Smith

Clare chose Mr and Mrs Smith because of their thoughtfulness in undertaking the role as Executors for their dear friend's estate. They have distributed the residue to charities close to the deceased’s heart and have always had specific reasons as to why they have chosen that particular charity. They have really considered the charities at hand and have even donated money towards a Brownsea Island walk in honour of their friend as he loved visiting the island. As such, Clare thought they were worthy of a gift.

What Mr and Mrs Smith said

“Pauline & I would like to take this opportunity to thank Coles Miller and in particular Clare Bland for her support & guidance throughout the estate administration. We are so pleased that Alan’s legacy is already making a huge difference to so many.”

Lorraine contacted us to arrange an LPA for her mother and dealt with solicitor Kerry Hay in our Poole office. Lorraine was sent a Spa Hamper to enjoy.

Why we chose Lorraine

Kerry Hay (solicitor) was contacted by Lorraine to prepare an LPA for her mother, unfortunately her mother died before Coles Miller got the LPA back from the OPG registered Kerry therefore advised on her estate and inheritance tax. Loraine, who lived with her parents, was worried that she would have to sell her home when her father died to pay inheritance tax due. Kerry’s advice put her mind at ease so that she could put things into perspective and concentrate on looking after her father. Kerry was then instructed to prepare an LPA for Lorraine’s father and review his will.

Shortly after this Lorraine’s father went into hospital for a routine operation and was recovering well in hospital when he contracted Covid-19 and passed away. Lorraine was devastated. Due to her father having Covid-19 Lorraine then had to self-isolate at a time when she really needed people around her to support her in her grief.

What Lorraine said

“Thank you so much for the Spa box that you sent me, it came just at the right time- the day before my father’s funeral! It was such a kind gesture and will enjoy using the products!” she also said “it’s been such a help having someone like you to speak to as you always explain things to carefully so that I can understand”

Jane was acting as attorney in the sale of her mum’s house as her mum is frail and in a care home.

Why we chose Jane

Jane lives in Wimbledon and her mum is in care in Broadstone, so they haven’t been able to see each other since March of last year (due to Covid) and as her mum is deaf, their conversations aren’t easy over the phone.  During conversations with Jane, Stephanie Anscombe (Coles Miller Conveyancing Trainee Legal Executive) discovered that Jane had been diagnosed with cancer and was about to begin treatment.

Stephanie learnt much about Jane's family history while acting in the sale, as Jane likes to talk to people when she gets a chance. She found out that Jane lives alone, having lost her husband to cancer and that her son lives in Canada.  Stephanie felt Jane was going through a particularly tough time and it would be lovely if we could do something special for her. We organised a luxury gift box, specifically designed to help, comfort and pamper cancer patients to be sent to Jane.

What Jane said

"Thank you so much, the gift is very sweet and I was very touched."

Why we chose Conveyancing Clients Mr M & Ms H (kept anonymous)

13

Clients Mr M & Ms H – IKatie Owen acted for each of these clients on their individual sales and then on their collective purchase. These went through June 2022. Unfortunately, Mr M was taken to hospital just before exchange and then released. He was then taken in again just before completion for heart and breathing issues. Ms H has had to therefore pack and organise for the sale of two properties as well as the move on her own whilst also worrying about her partner. She came in to the office after completion and he was still in hospital but she said everyone had been so kind.

What the clients said

“What a lovely surprise the flowers were so kind and thoughtful”.

Why we chose Conveyancing Client Mrs H (kept anonymous)

Katie Owen acted for Mrs H – Katie said she is the best client we have had. She is almost 80 and I have acted for her in her sale and purchase. She is moving from a property on a hill which makes it more difficult for her to get around to a property in central Broadstone. We have had some issues with her purchase which have delayed matters but she has been nothing but polite and very understanding and grateful for all the work we have undertaken for her. She has also been a calming and happy influence on our receptionist Kelly as well and I think Kelly would agree that she would be so happy to receive something to show our gratitude for her custom. She also volunteers as security (I know!) at Julia’s House.

What the clients said

What a lovely message. I can do some real damage with that gift card. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  You’ve been the most delightful solicitor to deal with and please send my love to your assistant too".
