1968 Velocette Venom scoops 2011 Coles Miller Dream Machines Bike of the Year Prize

The 2011 season of Coles Miller Dream Machines ended on a high with hundreds of bikers and spectators arriving to enjoy the spectacular season finale on Tuesday 27 September.

Organised by Poole Tourism, Dream Machines is part of Wave 105 Summertime in the South, Poole's packed summer events programme. The final event of the Dream Machines 2011 season was marked by the eagerly awaited "Bike of the Year" contest. Open to winners of the weekly "Bike of the Night" heats during 2011, the finale saw 21 bikes welcomed back to compete.

During the evening, voting cards were handed out to fellow bikers and spectators who cast their votes for their favourite bike in the line up. Each owner provided information for their competing bike giving its history.

1st place - John Fear from Corfe Mullen with his 1968 Velocette Venom Clubman MK2 won £300, a £250 voucher for paint spraying/airbrushing (courtesy of Bikes Legal Defence) and a free MOT (courtesy All2wheelers). John said:

"I've owned this bike for seven years and always wanted this model. It is a great sporting race machine and with all the up grades available there's no such thing as a standard Velo. I've been attending Dream Machines for the last 7 years so am really delighted to have won bike of the year."

2nd place - Darren Beel and Andy Bailey from Merley with their Yamaha RD350LC won £200, a £100 voucher for paint spraying/airbrushing (courtesy of Bikes Legal Defence) and a free MOT (courtesy All2wheelers).

3rd place - Steve Tomes from Poole with his Suzuki Intruder C800 won £100, a £50 voucher for paint spraying/airbrushing (courtesy of Bikes Legal Defence), free MOT (courtesy All2wheelers) and a copy of the book 'Bearback' by Dr Pat Garrod.

Adrian Cormack, Partner at Coles Miller LLP, said:

"What a fantastic finale to a wonderful season. There is always a real buzz about the Bike of the Year competition and this year exceeded all expectations. With record numbers of spectators, especially families, Coles Miller Dream Machines is a real highlight of Poole's special events programme. Our thanks go to Anne Simpson, Poole's Events Manager and everyone who makes it happen, from the bikers who turn up whatever the weather, to the volunteer marshals who give up their time to help it run smoothly. We can't wait to see you next year."
