RoyalThe biggest and best weekly bike meet in the South received royal approval this week with the presentation of the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award

Coles Miller Dream Machines won for the partnership between event organisers Poole Tourism, volunteer marshals and Dorset Police's Bike Safe Team who use the event to work directly with bikers to spread road safety messages.

The award which recognises the most outstanding examples of international road safety, was presented yesterday at the event by Adrian Walsh, Chairman of the International Road Safety Awards and Karen Cole, Director of Safety for The Motorcycle Industry Association, in front of crowds attending the event.

Adrian Walsh, said: "Engagement with riders has been the key to the success of Dream Machines.  The partners are all now seen as the guardians of the event and the underlying attitude of those attending has been permanently changed for the better, with a much higher level of trust and understanding between the community and the bikers.  This has resulted in a 75% reduction in riders attending the event, killed or seriously injured over the last 6 years."

Sponsored by Coles Miller Solicitors, Dream Machines takes place every Tuesday evening from April to September on Poole Quay against the backdrop of Europe's largest natural harbour.  Now celebrating its official 11th birthday this year, up to 2000 bikes regularly attend to socialise and compete for the bike of the night competition.  The final Tuesday in September is the biggest night of the season where the 26 Bike of the Night winners compete for the prestigious Bike of the Year competition.

Chris Smith, Dorset Police, said: "This award represents a huge long term effort by all those involved. It's not often we can show that our work has saved lives, but I can say that without the partnership that some of the bikers who attend weekly may not have been with us today.  It is a real privilege for us to be recognised in this way after many years working together to make the event and roads connected with it safer for everyone."

Anne Simpson, Poole Tourism Special Events Manager, said; "It's a wonderful honour to receive this award for the fantastic partnership with the volunteer marshals and Dorset Police Bike Safe Team.  The enthusiasm and involvement of all concerned has helped to improve road safety amongst the biking community and we are grateful for their support over the last few years."

Adrian Cormack, Partner at Coles Miller Solicitors LLP, said: "Coles Miller Dream Machines is a relaxed environment which bikers take real pleasure in attending.  This makes it a great opportunity to talk to people and spread important information.  It's a winning formula and we are extremely proud to be part
