Acquired brain injuries (ABI) – such as those caused by accidents or violence – are far more common than you might imagine.Adrian Cormack Partner Coles Miller

To be precise, 956 ABI victims are admitted to hospital every day. That is one every 90 seconds.

And the problem is getting worse.

ABI admissions to hospitals have risen by 10 per cent over the last eight years. Any increase is worrying but particularly so given the critical funding problems in the NHS.

Equally worrying are the hospital admission statistics relating to head injuries – one victim every three minutes.

Men are 1.6 more likely to suffer head injuries – but the number of women admitted to hospital with head injuries is up 24 per cent on 2005-6.

All these figures have been released by the charity Headway during Action for Brain Injury Week (May 18-24 2015).

Coles Miller is proud to support Headway and all the excellent work that it does to help victims and their families.

Our specialist solicitors know that every brain injury case is unique. Not all brain injury symptoms manifest themselves immediately. Some can be subtle personality changes.

They are so subtle that some can take months to appear and be recognised – but can eventually have a dramatic impact on the individual’s ability to earn a living and also their family life.

Brain injury victims and their families need more than a compensation cheque to fund treatment and care – although that is clearly an important start.

They need someone who can help to case manage all the changes that will affect their lives for years to come.

That person should be a specialist brain injury solicitor, one with experience of managing complex claims and all the subsequent care and support the victim will need.

Various solicitors claim to be personal injury specialists – but few in Britain have Coles Miller’s level of expertise and experience in dealing with major brain injury cases.

Our personal injury team is led by Coles Miller Partner Adrian Cormack who is recommended in the UK Legal 500 guide to Britain’s top solicitors. He is also chairman of the trustees at Headway Dorset.
